Elderly Client Services

Elderly clients and their families often face legal issues which require specialist solicitors with both the legal skills and expertise and the personal skills to deal with them.

This area of work is in the middle of a fundamental legal change, with the new rules introduced by the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

We have drawn together the in depth experience we have in advising elderly clients and their families into a team of skilled solicitors with a human touch who can help with all aspects of legal advice to the elderly.

The Team

The Elderly Client Services Team is headed by Alison Allen

The Team ensures that its members have the relevant qualifications and skills. Alison Allen and two other members of the team - Charles Hayward and Kathryn Layzell - are members of Solicitors For The Elderly, the leading professional body for lawyers advising in this area of the law.

Paul Sutton, an associate in the firm's Dispute Resolution team, is a member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists and is a key member of the Team helping with disputes.

We work closely with family members and relatives and those who care for clients, and with the client's professional advisers, including accountants, brokers and financial advisers.

We work closely with Social Services, with the doctors and other medical professionals who care for the client, and with the client's nursing or residential home.

We also work with local charities who help the elderly.

We have a growing reputation for this area of work. Members of our Team regularly lecture on relevant issues, including in particular the changes introduced by the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Our areas of specialism include the following -
